Climate action
G3 Full Geography - syllabus K329, 2027
Understand mitigation and adaptation, compare climate risks and choose measures that fit a community.
- Mitigation, adaptation and development
Mitigation cuts the causes of climate change, adaptation reduces the harm, and good climate action also protects people's livelihoods.
- Hazard, exposure and vulnerability
Risk depends on the hazard, who or what is in its path, and how easily they can be harmed.
- Cutting energy emissions
Cleaner energy, more efficient equipment and lower demand work together to cut total emissions.
- Climate policy and cooperation
Global agreements only cut emissions when countries act on them and people have practical low-carbon choices.
- Carbon stores and sinks
Protecting forests and oceans stops stored carbon escaping, and regrowing forests removes more, but this takes time and can be undone.
- Flood, water and food adaptation
Different measures tackle different parts of a problem, so combine them to fit local risks and resources.
- Warnings, policy and resilience
People need clear warnings, safe options and support to act, while good policy and cooperation keep adaptation working.
- Named examples: Climate action
A named place with a date or figure, linked to your point, turns a general answer into a developed one.
What you will be able to do
I can explain how climate action supports, or sometimes limits, sustainable development.
Syllabus K329, Topic 3.3, Key Question 1. How does climate action help achieve sustainable development?
Taught in Mitigation, adaptation and development, Named examples: Climate action
I can explain climate risk as the mix of hazard, exposure and vulnerability, and why it differs between places.
Syllabus K329, Topic 3.3, Key Question 2. Why do climate risks vary across places?
Taught in Hazard, exposure and vulnerability
I can judge how well mitigation strategies, such as cutting emissions and storing carbon, build community resilience.
Syllabus K329, Topic 3.3, Key Question 3. How effective are mitigation strategies in building a community's resilience to climate change?
Taught in Cutting energy emissions, Climate policy and cooperation, Carbon stores and sinks
I can judge how well adaptation strategies, from technology to institutions, make a community resilient.
Syllabus K329, Topic 3.3, Key Question 4. How effective are adaptation strategies in building a community's resilience to climate change?
Taught in Flood, water and food adaptation, Warnings, policy and resilience
