Sustainable tourism development
G2 Full Geography - syllabus K226, 2027
Compare ways to protect nature, support local livelihoods and give communities a fair say in tourism.
- Three dimensions of sustainable tourism
Sustainable tourism needs lasting jobs and income, respect for local people and healthy nature, all at once and for the long term.
- Stakeholders and decision-making
Stakeholders have different priorities and different amounts of power, and real participation means being able to change decisions.
- Hard and soft ecotourism
Ecotourism should support learning, conservation and local people, so judge its results, not its label.
- Community-based tourism
Community-based tourism lets local people manage tourism and its benefits, but it still needs customers, skills and fair decisions.
- Pro-poor tourism
Pro-poor tourism aims to help poorer people, but training and loans only work if people can reach customers and earn enough.
- Responsible production and consumption
Manage both how businesses provide tourism and how visitors use a place, putting residents' needs first and staying within local limits.
- Fair benefits and trade-offs
Look beyond averages: compare who gains, who pays the costs and whether the benefits can last.
- Named examples: Sustainable tourism development
A named place with a date or figure, linked to your point, turns a general answer into a developed one.
